Roofing Asphalt Shingles
Product Introduction
Roofing asphalt shingles (also known as fiberglass shingles) are the most popular roofing material for residential buildings in North America, with a market coverage of around 75%. They are composed mainly of fiberglass mat, modified asphalt and colored mineral granules, featuring excellent waterproofing, weather resistance, decorative effects and cost efficiency.
1. Basic Structure
- Mat: Fiberglass non-woven mat is widely adopted for superior fire resistance and tear resistance. Organic paper-based mats are gradually phased out.
- Asphalt Coating: Impregnated with SBS or APP modified asphalt to deliver waterproofing, adhesion and flexibility.
- Mineral Granules: Covered with colored ceramic granules (1–3 mm), accounting for 40%–50% of the total weight. Functions include UV protection, anti-aging, decoration, Class A fire resistance and anti-algae performance with copper/zinc additives for heat insulation.
- Adhesive Strip: Self-adhesive strip on the back activates under sunlight, bonding overlapping layers to enhance wind resistance.
